Museum Space, Palafiori
Project Description
The new museum space is found inside the Palafiori, a multi-purpose construction built in the ‘90s and used prevalently as an exhibition space and for conferences.
In the given open space – a 800 sq m wide and unregolar surface – the project implements a double system of spaces, which leads back to one closed geometric shape. This main space is held in check by diaphragms that regulate multiple itineraries through fixed and moveable walls.
In fact, the layout solution comes from the intention of guaranteeing a simple space that is able to welcome works of art of various shapes, typologies and materials, thanks to higher flexibility.
The exhibition space is formed by two environments coming together: a big rectangular “room” – about 26 meters by 10 meters – located in the center of the area of intervention, and a mixtilinear “gallery”, divided by protrusions and recesses alternating along the perimeter.
The “room” thanks to the sliding walls will be able to assume different spatial configurations: one single, big room or more exhibition rooms laid out in sequence for shows divided into thematic sections.
The more captivating and lively “gallery” space will host glass cabinets and complementary activities devoted to teaching, reading and relaxation, essential functions to the way of thinking about the consumption of culture today.
